FAQ's

What is your style of photography?

As a lifestyle photographer I have a penchant for storytelling. I’m not always a “look here and smile” kind of photographer. I love traditional portraits but I also love to capture life as it happens, candid moments, and natural interactions, sometimes your kiddo is laughing and sometimes you get big soulful eyes without a smile. I love those too!

To get a better idea of my style, take a look through my portfolio.

Where can our session take place?

I love photographing families outdoors and at locations that have a special meaning to your family; your local park or even your front lawn or backyard. I am open to photographing indoors if you have great lighting.

When can we see our pictures?

I try to get a sneak peek to you within a couple of days of our session, then between 3 and 4 weeks for the full gallery.

How many photos will I see?

I fully believe in quality over quantity and strive only to give you the best from your session. Typical one hour sessions produce between 20 and 30 high quality images. Half hour sessions about 10 to 15.

Do you only photograph families?

I also photograph newborns, babies, kids, seniors, couples, and even commercial photography.

What areas do you serve?

I am based in Sugar Land and serve the surrounding Fort Bend County and Southwest Harris County areas. I spend quite a bit of time in Round Top and Galveston as well. If you are outside of a 30 mile radius of Sugar Land, travel fees may apply.

What is the best way to get in touch with you?

The best way to reach me is via email at jbergenphoto@gmail.com.

What time of day do you schedule sessions?

The timing of your session is typically determined based on 2 factors: location and the amount of available light. The best lighting is about an hour and a half to one hour before sunset and early to mid-morning. I work with each family to schedule a time that is best for everyone.

What should my family wear?

Most importantly, everyone should wear something comfortable. Your session is about capturing real life, so I encourage you to wear clothing that reflects your typical style. Dress up a bit if you want and coordinate outfits if you like. (I would stay away from being too matchy.) Layers are awesome, textures are great, but logos are not! Be prepared to sit in the grass and kick off your shoes!

Can I change outfits?

Sure! I don't have a limit on wardrobe changes, except for child sessions, but please keep in mind, the more you change, the less time we have shooting! I recommend one change per session.

Do you retouch your images?

All digital files need correcting otherwise the images will be flat and lifeless. All my post production is done by me and takes time and patience.

What is your cancellation policy?

You have up to 48 hours prior to your session time to cancel, otherwise your deposit will be forfeited. Kids don't usually enjoy photo sessions when they're feeling yucky, so it is always okay to reschedule.

What about my pets? Can I bring them?

If animals are allowed at our location, they are allowed in the session! Animals are unpredictable though, I'll do my best to capture them right along with everyone, but I can't guarantee they'll be looking at the camera or in the traditional family portrait.
